Abstract

It is a matter of form in applied labor economic science to assume that marital condition is a predetermined contributor to earnings among young males. We detect no evidence to support that proffer. Nosotros estimate a model of earnings determination that permits endogenous selection of marital status. Our estimates are based on a sample of immature employed males from the Michigan Panel Survey of Income Dynamics. They indicate that marital condition, viewed in this manner, does non significantly shift the mean earnings contour. Our sensitivity tests indicate that this conclusion is robust with respect to a diverseness of alternative specifications.
